91 Years of Great Memories
Press Release
VANCOUVER, JUNE 02 –
Vancouver’s beloved Kitsilano Showboat is back with a bang. Showboat is proudly presenting its trademark brand of fun family entertainment five nights a week, starting June 17 and continuing until Aug. 23.
Showboat is still recovering after the seaside venue was severely damaged by fire in April 2023, but we are still here — bigger and better than ever. Our team of dedicated volunteers have been working with the City of Vancouver and the Park Board to make it possible to hold performances Wednesday through Sunday every week.
“Showboat has been offering new and established talent a venue to display their talents for over 90 years,” says Kitsilano Showboat Society President Barry Leinbach. “We support the performing arts in B.C and provide a place for the young stars of tomorrow to get their start.”
More than 80 groups will appear on the Showboat stage over the course of 50 nights this year. Our all-star lineup will feature The Band of the 15th Field Regiment, Rock Band Saints and Sinners, Earth Wind and Choir, Aliza Arts Association, Don Alder, Gary Chalk and the Kits Point All Stars, Vancouver Rainbow Band, Will’s Jam, DJ Dance Party, Tian Guao Marching Band, The Side Project, Fairweather Blues Band, the World Champion Penke O’Donnell Irish Dancers and many more.
Showboat will also be showcasing National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21), Canada’s Multicultural Day (June 27), and Canada Day Celebrations (July 1) featuring a full day of children’s activities and family entertainment. Join us from 2:30 to 9:00 with Music with Marnie, Dance Party for kids with Meike Jeurgens, a singalong for kids and at 7:00 Captain R and The Yacht Rock Beach Party to close out the day.
“Everyone associated with Showboat is a volunteer, including the performers, hosts, program sellers, directors and committee heads. No one is paid other than a small staff funded by the Federal Canada Summer Jobs Program,” says Leinbach.
